I am an analyzer. I scan and review and ponder things, to see how they can work better.
I review content – emails, essays, op-eds, website copy – to foster an open dialogue between writer & reader. I do this by combing through communications to ensure emotions aren’t getting in the way of the message being received by its reader.
As a university-trained writer specializing in instructional content, I offer deep analysis & communication strategy services.
I weed out red flag words and phrases that pull from the effectiveness of the content, so it’s more likely to be read and considered, rather than being dismissed or minimized.
Often our words and sentences are loaded with emotional undercurrents – deeply enmeshed survival-based defensiveness and aggression – yet we are so caught up in how we feel, we don’t notice the inferences we’re making.
We are so enmeshed in our desire to experience relief from our uncomfortable heated feelings, that we bypass considering how or if our words might be received at all.
It’s not that this default mode makes us bad or wrong. It’s just an affirmation of what we’re all struggling with, all the time: we’re human beings. We FEEL deeply. And that influences our communications.
We can be emotional and irrational and defensive – at times, our own worst enemy. And we can overshare and over inform which also detracts from our message. So we need some help, to make sure we put our best words forward, so they’re read.
If we want to create change in the world, we must take responsibility for the energetic emanations of our words.
We can say, “Well, that’s their problem, that they took what I said a certain way.” But this stance does not contribute to an open channel of communication in society.
We are not wholly responsible for how someone perceives what we share. But it is our job to review what we are sharing and notice if it is supportive of openness and receptivity, and the change we want to see in the world.
What I’m offering as a strategic communication analyst is objectivity and a keen eye and ear for emotional connotations.
I zoom out and see the big picture, helping to craft your words into a powerful piece of communication that is capable of being received & resonates after its been read.
We need to work together, not against one another. How we choose to communicate either supports or impairs our need to come together as a species.
