Sometimes I write poetry.
I wrote the following in early 2016, as I continued down the road to realizing that healing had to do with returning to who I was before I felt the need to become someone else.
As the poem’s title goes, I retired early, at least from the process of trying so hard to conform to someone else’s standards of what it is to be a successful female.
I realized when I wrote this, and know without a doubt now, that finding the courage to religiously be yourself is the destination.
If we can get there, incredible things happen.
Re-establishing the sense of self we were born with, so we have a platform upon which to catapult ourselves into the realm of our own truth is truly what life is all about.
Because when we share our truth, we inspire others to do the same.
That’s where the healing happens.
I retired from the loathing,
I didn’t wait for a specific age.
One day I said enough –
Back to the beginning for you.
You must become who you were
Before they told you to bend
To the ways of the world.
Before they feared in you
What they could never understand.
